Purpose

With this clever new invention, the insertion site can now be preserved until the appropriate device can be reinserted. To prevent collapse, a caregiver will simply open the sterile packaging and insert the lubricated site plug into the patient and secure with tape until medical staff arrives. While designed for homecare use, the Emergency Site Plug can be used in any medical environment as well.

Story Behind the Invention

Christine Troli

Inventor Christine M. Troli of Chicago Heights, IL has designed a site plug that will preserve a patient’s insertion site until the appropriate device can be reinserted.

As a home health nurse, Troli has seen several patients after they have pulled out their suprapubic catheter or G-tube. When this happens, time is of the essence, as human body tissue will quickly return to its original configuration in an attempt to heal itself. If a nurse cannot get to the home in time, or if this happens in the middle of the night, an ER trip or even surgery may be required. Troli knew there had to be another way. In turn, she designed the Emergency Site Plug!

To prevent collapse, a caregiver will simply open the sterile packaging and insert the lubricated site plug into the patient and secure with tape until medical staff arrives. While designed for homecare use, the invention can be used in any medical environment as well.
